Newer Antipsychotics Appear No Better Than Older Agent in Treating Child, Adolescent Schizophrenia
Two second-generation antipsychotics — olanzapine and risperidone — appear no more effective than molindone, a first-generation antipsychotic, in treating children with schizophrenia. Furthermore, the newer agents were linked to substantial weight gain, and olanzapine was associated with significant increases in metabolic adverse effects.
